New Orbit, a great gravity game

While I spent my mornings working on my own game for iOS, I’ve been trying out some games. New Orbit, which is on sale as part of the Beacuse We May massive sale is one I picked tonight. And what a nice game… I still have a few missions to go, and I fear it’ll be on the short side, but it doesn’t matter…

The game has a cool story about a pilot which is lost in space inside a tiny ship. In order to survive and get home he has to accomplish small “missions” which involve piloting his ship around in a realistic 2d space.

The controls are easy to grasp, although I do miss the turn/thrust mechanic, but it’s nice how the game shows you what forces are involved with your ship (gravity from nearby objects, and your own thrust). It makes it easy to judge what direction you’ve got to accelerate towards to reach your goal.

The mix of an interesting story with good voice acting and the more “arcade” gameplay is a good one. I haven’t seen anything similar to this game in a long while… It’s certainly a game worth playing and I’m hoping the developers will be soon releasing more episodes…
